American Shorthairs can live fifteen to twenty years, requiring only annual vaccinations, veterinary checkups, a quality diet and plenty of tender loving care.
The American Shorthair is recognized in more than eighty different colors and patterns ranging from the striking brown patched tabby to the glistening blue-eyed white, the beautiful shaded silvers, smokes and cameos to the flashy calico van, and many colors in between. The most well-known American Shorthair color today is the silver tabby, with dense black markings set on a sterling silver background. You probably have seen an example of this striking variety in television and magazine advertising or in recent movie roles.
It's no wonder that the American Shorthair consistently ranks as one of the ten most popular breeds of cat -- truly a star in the feline world.

It depends on his diet. Cats fed dry food live much shorter lifespans because they are so prone to various diseases, such as obesity, diabetes, urinary tract and inflammatory bowel issues, gingivitis and tooth loss, even hyperthyroidism and kidney failure. If you feed your cat a species-appropriate diet of a quality meat canned (or raw) food without gravy, and avoiding added grains, fruits and vegetables, your cat may live to be 20 or more.

The average life expectancy of a tabby cat is 15-20 years.
Of course every cat is different, depending on diet, exercise, genetics, etc.
I hope your cat has a long, healthy life. :)
